Welcome!
The Sri Chinmoy Centre was founded in the mid-1960s by spiritual leader Sri Chinmoy, whose teachings centered on the development of inner peace, personal transformation, and self-discovery. Born in Bengal, India in 1931, Sri Chinmoy spent over two decades in a spiritual community before moving to New York City in 1964. There, he began sharing his unique blend of Eastern spirituality and universal wisdom with seekers from all walks of life. His vision was to create a space where people could explore the deeper aspects of their own nature through meditation, creativity, and selfless service.
The first Sri Chinmoy Centres opened in New York and Puerto Rico, offering free meditation classes to the public, in keeping with Sri Chinmoy’s belief that spiritual growth should be accessible to everyone. As his teachings spread, so did the Centres. Today, Sri Chinmoy Centres can be found in hundreds of cities across the globe, forming a vibrant international community of seekers committed to spiritual growth and peace.
Beyond meditation, Sri Chinmoy encouraged his students to engage in various forms of self-expression and personal excellence, including art, music, athletics, and service. This led to the creation of initiatives like the global Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, Peace Concerts, and artistic exhibitions, all of which continue to inspire millions worldwide.
Sri Chinmoy passed away in 2007, but his legacy lives on through the work of the Centres. Each Centre continues to offer free meditation classes, organise peace-building activities, and inspire individuals to lead meaningful lives of inner and outer fulfillment. By promoting inner peace and harmony, the Sri Chinmoy Centre aims to contribute to a more peaceful world, carrying forward the timeless teachings of its founder.
