21. Breathing in cosmic energy
This week we continue in the same vein with a breathing exercise from Sri Chinmoy that brings cosmic energy into our system for purification and revitalisation.
20. Breathing in peace, power and joy
In this weeks meditation exercise, Sri Chinmoy offers some simple breathing techniques for the development of purity, peace, power and joy. Remember to practice these exercises according to your own capacity. If you push or pull too hard beyond your limitations, you may become frustrated and discouraged.
19. Meditation and breathing
Correct, controlled breathing is very important in meditation. When we breathe calmly and consciously, tranquility enters into our mind and body, helping us to relax and be still. The rhythm of our breathing is akin to little waves lapping the seashore — a gentle ebb and flow. Conscious breathing also helps us to internalise ourselves.
18. Meditation and the spiritual heart
Most seekers are troubled by thoughts and impurities that arise in the mind. In the following exercises, Sri Chinmoy offers some practical ways to purify the minds restless nature by focusing on the spiritual heart.
17. Utilising the mind
A knife can be a very useful instrument yet it can also be very destructive. With a knife we can stab someone or we can cut up fruits and share them with others. So it is with the mind. The mind is not bad as such but we often misuse the mind and suffer in various ways as a result. As with a knife, we can choose to use the mind in a positive way or let an ill disciplined mind direct our actions in a negative sense – it is up to us!
Aspiration-Ground
Posted September 21st, 2009 by ujjwalaAspiration-Ground began as Sri Chinmoy's tennis court, surrounded by bleachers, near his home in Queens, New York. Through the years, however it has evolved into a sacred ground, used by thousands of Sri Chinmoy's students and friends, to pray and meditate.
'Twas once a tennis court of clay
Where footsteps could be traced,
'Tis now where aspirants come to pray
And court markings since erased...
16. Nurturing good thoughts
15. Seeing thoughts as friends and enemies
The battle to silence the mind can be a difficult one and often requires a degree of creativity and forcefulness. In this weeks meditation exercise, Sri Chinmoy offers another approach to dealing with thoughts by seeing good thoughts as friends and bad thoughts as enemies — and even giving them tangible physical attributes.
Haiku in New York
Posted September 9th, 2009 by ujjwalaThis year I spent the summer in New York on what almost one could almost call a modern day pilgramage and resolved to keep a Haiku dairy, which I must admit was harder than I realised! This is what I started with...
I've got writers block
It's too heavy to build with
I will chizel it
14. Play in the garden of your mind
For this weeks meditation exercise, Sri Chinmoy takes us into the realm of creative visualisation — using the mind in a creative and positive manner. We are constantly assailed by thoughts and in order for our lives to be spiritually expansive, we must learn to discriminate between a progressive thought and a regressive thought.
