Meditation Invocation

At 5:15 in the morning
My alarm begins to ring,
Although a little groggy
I feel a beckoning within.

I glance out my window,
Darkness presses on the panes,
My bed feels soft and warm
But I get up all the same.

Blurry eyed I grab my towel
Down the passage to the shower,
Then sit in front of my shrine
Adorned with candle, picture, flower.

I sit with my back up straight
And start to breathe in peace
And with my first inhalation
Anxieties release.<

I calm my turbulent mind
Making it smooth and clear
So that I can see the Truth
Clearly reflected there.

I feel at my core a source of joy,
Is this who I truly am?
Perhaps I am more than this body
As daughter of BAM and SAM*

Concentrating on my heart
I feel a fount of love.
That resonates in all creatures
Below, around, above.

With my meditation meal
My soul child I nourish and feed,
Just as I listen to my body's
Daily requirements and needs.

I offer my thanks to Sri Chinmoy
Who taught me all I know
In becoming who I really am
and helping me to grow.

I sing a few devotional songs
To conclude my meditation
and to the beauty of the morn
I make my invocation.
