How to See Secret Treasures in Life

My name is Prasasta. I started my own personal spiritual journey around ten years ago after I learnt to meditate. I would like to share one thing that I have become increasingly aware of recently, and this awareness itself is a fruit of meditation. Lately I have become aware that there are many secret treasures in the world. It is not that they are hidden; it is just many of us, including myself can not always see them. I will write about what these treasures are and how to see them.

After my first meditation class I walked out into the street and looked around. I will never forget how much beauty I saw that afternoon. It was not that the day outside was much different but it was just how I was seeing things. It was a new awareness, an awareness that came from meditating.  One could say I was in a higher consciousness allowing me to see thing more clearly, thus revealing what is real, or reality.

There are other ways that are similar to meditation in elevating consciousness. Sri Chinmoy says “Next to deep prayer or meditation, music is of paramount importance. Each time soulful music is played, we get inspiration and delight.” I really feel this. If I play a musical instrument for even a few minutes it brings me out of my mind and into a place which is joyful. Keeping physically active also does wonders for me. The days that I exercise are always more fulfilling than the days that I do not.

Why try to be in a higher consciousness? You see treasures in everyday life. You may notice the beauty in nature, or you may feel you friend’s compassion and love towards you or even the devotion your dog has for you. When one feels these things then it is so easy to offer these qualities back to the world. Sri Chinmoy has written many aphorisms relevant to this. Here are a few…

Self-giving
Is the sacred secret
Of our happiness-life.

If you can create harmony
In your own life,
This harmony will enter
Into the vast world.

If the world is going to change,
First we will have to change
In our hearts.

Sri Chinmoy

These secret treasures are in the world but we may not be able to see them clearly or very frequently if we do not try to deepen our awareness. They may remain hidden. Every day with meditation, music and exercise I try to elevate my consciousness so I experience what is real and fulfilling in life. I then have something I can offer back to the world.

Do not try to change the world,
You will fail,
Try to change yourself,
Lo, the world is changed forever.

-Sri Chinmoy

I humbly recommend to you to see what secret treasures you may find with meditation being the tool. You may get transported to a whole new place without stepping foot into a car or an aeroplane! Good luck to you!
