Does meditation help in your running?

Susan Marshall answered the following question after the 2-mile race on 28 March 2009.

Question: Does meditation help in your running?

Susan Marshall: I think it must do. I was always a good runner at the school, but then I stopped because I was occupied with everything else. It was not until I started meditating that I had the focus which allowed me to train. I mean, some people will be able to run well whether they are meditating or not, because they are that kind of person that they got focus, discipline and inspiration to train. If you do not have that - and I did not have that - then meditation can give that to you. And this is something that you need to be a good runner.

While you are running, if you can focus and you are not thinking about your time, your miles, and how tired you are, then it is a lot easier. If you are all the time worrying about the numbers and everything else, then you cannot put your energy into actually running fast. I have found that you need to focus quite a bit on your running style, because if you are doing that, you are running more efficiently. So this way meditation helps in your running.

Also, when you meditate, you can put a lot more energy into your running, because there are other energy resources for which we normally do not have access.
